Back in 2003, the Employment Lawyers Association asked me to speak on Flexible working in the legal profession. This was prompted by the introduction of the Employment Act 2002 giving employees the right to request flexible working. The talk covered such issues as:
- the drivers for flexible working
- demographics
- costs of recruitment
- attrition rates in the profession and the costs of attrition
- case studies of lawyers working flexibly
- tools to analyse an individual’s ability to work flexibly
The slides and notes for this talk can be found following this link:

Many of the statistics contained in the slides are now out of date. I will do another post shortly giving some more up to date statistics on such issues as attrition rates in the profession, cost of attrition and so forth.
